Dear constituents,
Thank you for reading my May newsletter. I hope you and your family are keeping well in this sweltering heatwave.
I am sure many of you will have enjoyed the hot weather and visited the Heath over the Bank Holiday weekend. While I know the vast majority of people were respectful, I am sadly aware that there have been incidences of antisocial behaviour, which would have understandably impacted people’s enjoyment of the park. This is particularly concerning following the tragic murder of Finbar Sullivan on Primrose Hill last month. I have been engaging closely with the City of London Corporation, Royal Parks and Met Police, to push for urgent measures to keep our green spaces safe.
At the beginning of the month, I was disappointed to lose some of our hard-working councillors in the local election. On the doorstep, people were rightfully impatient for change. Waiting lists are falling, wages are rising, new rights for renters and leaseholders, and we are lifting hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty. That is thanks to 18 months of a Labour Government, and we are just getting started.
Keir Starmer marked a new parliamentary session, where the King came to Parliament to read out the Government’s upcoming agenda. I was pleased to see plans for an Education Bill to finally fix the SEND system, a Commonhold and Leaseholders’ Rights Bill, and a Social Housing Renewal Bill. Over the coming months, I will be scrutinising these laws to ensure they make a positive difference to my constituents in Hampstead and Highgate.

My response to the Golders Green Attack
My thoughts continue to be with the victims of the Golders Green attack. I hope they make a quick and full recovery to be with their families and friends soon. Tragically, this is not an isolated incident, but part of a sustained attack on the community in the UK, particularly in North London. In recent years, I have heard from hundreds of Jewish people in my constituency about the impact that rising antisemitism has had on them and I am deeply saddened to hear that many Jews no longer feel safe in their communities.
My team and I are in regular communication with the police about their plans for protecting the Jewish community and Jewish venues in the constituency, particularly around religious holidays.
In the days following the attack, I was pleased to see the Prime Minister convene leaders from across public life to drive whole of society response to antisemitism. I will continue to work with local leaders, faith groups, and colleagues across Parliament to challenge antisemitism wherever it arises, strengthen education against hate, and ensure that the Jewish community in Hampstead and Highgate, and across the country, feel safe, supported, and valued.
Social Media Consultation
This month I enjoyed a lively discussion with Year 8 and 9 at Channing School about the Government’s consultation on the regulation of social media for children and young people. It is vital that we listen to the voice of young people on this important topic.
To ensure my constituents are heard, I recently set up an online survey. Over 500 local parents and young people shared their views with me, which I have reviewed and shared with the Government.
Almost 80% of respondents expressed concern about addictive features such as infinite scroll, autoplay and hyper-personalised algorithms, with 81% of respondents supporting a ban on social media accounts for children under 16. Many young people also raised the need for better awareness and training on responsible social media use to mitigate harm and ensure that the internet is a safe place for all. Children also shared with me the positive benefits social media has brought them, from making friends to learning new skills. However, young constituents also suggested that existing forms of age-restrictions on social media are easily circumventable, so requiring ID to open an account would not be enough to enforce a ban.
In the weeks and months ahead, I will push for measures that protect young people and hold companies accountable, with the views of my constituents at the forefront of my work.
Women’s Health Conference
I was delighted to chair an important conference on women’s health priorities in England. As a campaigner for stronger workplace protections for those suffering endometriosis and for protecting critical maternity services at the Royal Free Hospital, this is an issue close to my heart. We heard from many inspirational speakers from across the health service, academia and the healthcare industry. It is vital that these women are heard by those in power.
School visit to Downing Street
I was very pleased to welcome the School Council of Emmanuel CoE Primary School to Westminster for a tour of the Houses of Parliament. I also took them for a visit to No.10 Downing Street to see where the Prime Minister lives! Unfortunately, Larry the cat was busy having a nap while we were there, but it was a very fun visit nonetheless. Shortly after the visit, the School Council sent me some lovely cards to say thank you, which meant a lot to me and my team.
Visit to St Cuthberts
I was delighted to witness the licensing of Mthr Clemency as the priest of St Cuthberts West Hampstead and welcome her to the community. St Cuthberts is a wonderful church community, and I want to wish her all the best as she begins her new role.
Endometriosis Inquiry
The All-Party-Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Endometriosis is inviting written evidence for a new inquiry that aims to investigate endometriosis in the workplace. The APPG wants to hear from those with endometriosis, employers, occupational health, HR experts, and healthcare practitioners to understand what challenges and opportunities are faced in the workplace for supporting those with endometriosis at work.
The inquiry follows the latest data from Endometriosis UK showing it takes on average 9 years and 4 months for diagnosis of endometriosis in the UK, a statistic that hasn’t improved in over a decade.

The Fairfield Independent Review into the Metropolitan Police Service was commissioned jointly by the Mayor of London and Metropolitan Police Commissioner in response to a recommendation by Baroness Louise Casey in her hugely important 2023 report.

PIP Survey
Disability Rights UK’s co-survey on experiences of PIP is now live with an information page. The findings of this survey will serve two key purposes:
- contribute evidence to the Timms Review; and
- help build an independent evidence base rooted in Disabled people’s lived experience for our campaign work in anticipation of Timms Review publication.
