Celebrating my constituent Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s freedom, I had the pleasure of attending an event organised by Nazanin’s legal team at Gibson Dunn to welcome her home. We paid tribute to the tireless campaigning or Richard and the many other individuals and organisations who were involved in the fight, and the many years of hard work by everyone behind the scenes on this case.
Over the six years I spent fighting for Nazanin’s freedom in Parliament, there were many occasions where it felt as if all hope was lost. Yet despite it all, we persevered. It was a truly special occasion to recognise this over the dinner and have everyone in the same room to celebrate Nazanin, her freedom, and everyone’s determination, hope and hard work.
I’m continuing to fight to ensure that the UK Government does not allow the mistakes that Nazanin paid a very dear price for to be repeated, for the sake of those who have been left behind in Iran like Morad Tahbaz and all those who are at risk of being taken hostage in the future.
