Is anyone else looking forward to the weekend? I’ve had a really busy few days. Door-to-door canvassing on Sunday, telephone canvassing on Monday, Regent’s Park ward meeting on Tuesday and a friend’s birthday last night.

I’ve also been chatting to my friend Orlanda who works for the National Alliance of Women’s Organisations and volunteers for Million Women Rise, a coalition which aims to end violence against women in all its forms.

In addition to all the worthy causes she fights for, she’s also completing the Sony Run to the Beat Half Marathon to raise funds and awareness for a charity called Refuge.

Here’s a photo of Orly in her Refuge vest:

Refuge provides emergency accommodation, outreach services and support to women and children who have experienced domestic violence.

Did you know that in the UK, on average, two women a week die as a result of violence from a partner or ex partner? While the government has been proactive in taking steps to tackle this issue, violence behind closed doors is a complex issue and much remains to be done.

Refuge’s work literally saves lives so I would be grateful if people could sponsor Orlanda. You can donate here.

On a lighter note, I was told by a friend that I featured in last month’s OK! magazine with Konnie Huq. Now if that isn’t a claim to fame, I don’t know what is!

I’m sure all of you only read the Economist and the Newsweek but if anyone just happens to have last month’s OK! lying around, please do save it for me. I’d like to keep a copy for my grandchildren….!
