Parliamentary Researchers Reception

After the Researchers Reception last night, all the researchers in Parliament look a little worse for wear this morning! Not surprisingly considering the amount of free alcohol available. It was a really fun evening although some soft drinks would have been nice….. and water does not count as a soft drink!

Deputy Leader of the House, Helen Goodman MP, gave a brief speech about the invaluable work that we do for our MPs and spoke about her own experience of being a researcher. She said the expenses row had possibly led to a few misperceptions that MP’s researchers led extravagant lifestyles but in reality, the work can often be very demanding. Judging by the wide smiles all round, it seemed as though everyone appreciated her words.

I chatted to Dan Whittle about the new T&G mentoring scheme. which I’ve signed up to. It’s a way of making new members of staff feel more welcome when they start work in this Westminster labyrinth. I’m looking forward to meeting my mentee over the recess break. Although judging by the amount of casework I have, I don’t think it’s going to be much of a ‘break’ for me!
