HS2 Speech Vote

I have campaigned against High Speed Rail 2 for the past seven years as I believe it is an ill-thought out scheme which will devastate areas of Hampstead and Kilburn, the constituency I am privileged to represent in Westminster.

There will be bedlam on our roads, communities will be uprooted, school children will be affected and our local environment will be dangerously compromised.

Further, I am not convinced of the economic benefits of HS2. The Government’s plans will cost taxpayers billions of pounds, and I believe this money should be spent on projects that will actually bring improvements to living standards across the country.

My first priority as the MP for Hampstead and Kilburn is to protect residents in Camden and Brent.

Therefore, today I voted against High Speed Rail 2 in Parliament.
