Middle Levels

Private Bills are introduced when a change in the law is required for matters that apply to specific individuals or organisations, rather than the general public.

Those affected by changes within such a Bill can petition Parliament against the proposed Bill. They do so by presenting their objections to committees of MPs and Lords, and this month, I have been proud to have been appointed to judge on one such committee.

The particular committee I have been assigned to involves updating regulations for the Middle Levels, a network of waterways in the Fens between Peterborough and Denver Sluice. Though the topic seems remote from the concerns of residents of Hampstead and Kilburn, it is an important matter to many people of that area and it is a privilege to have been selected to judge on the committee.

Progress on the Bill and further background can be read here.
