Leaving the EU – Update

This month I was able to represent the issues raised with me both inside Parliament and at events in our local area.

Joining Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, Sir Keir Starmer, and Camden Council’s leader Sarah Hayward, I spoke to over 500 people on the range of issues resulting from Brexit.

It was clear to me that local residents are craving certainty and it is therefore positive that Keir has already secured vital concessions from the Government that mean we are able to scrutinise the Government’s plans more closely.

In Parliament, I was able to ask the Brexit Secretary two questions that have repeatedly been raised with me at my advice surgeries and when I have been out and about in the constituency.

My first question was on the Government’s commitment to meeting air pollution reductions following our exit from the EU. The Government’s record in this area is atrocious, and is having a profound effect on the health of Londoners – my first question can be viewed here.

My second question was on the continuation of EU funding for local projects that have helped reduce the employment gap, enhance skills, and improve social inclusivity. Many people’s futures depend on these projects and it is high time the Government committed to continuing the funding when our exit from the EU does eventually materialise. You can watch my second question here.

The Government continues to offer little else but lip service to the deep anxieties facing businesses, residents and our international partners, following the outcome of June’s EU Referendum. Residents have my assurances that I will keep up the pressure in the months ahead.
