Joanna Lumley

As I’ve mentioned before, I work for Harry Cohen MP who is the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet.

Harry and actress Joanna Lumley launched the Tibet Film Festival 2009 last week at the House of Commons. I had a chance to chat to Joanna about the film festival which is running in the UK from March till May this year. The festival is a non-profit initiative and all the proceeds go to Tibet House Trust. You can find out more about this charity which provides educational sponsorship for Tibetan children here.

Here’s a photo of us –

Joanna very kindly crouched down so I wouldn’t look too small next to her!

When people of Joanna Lumleys stature lend their time and energy to the cause of Tibet it brings a sense of hope that justice will be done and the Tibetans will one day be free of Chinese dominance. Its been 50 years since the dalai lama has been in exile and sometimes I cant help but think he is fighting a lost cause against a seemingly unstoppable force . But then hope is all we have at the end of the day and I’m glad to be reminded by initiatives like this and people like Ms Lumley and Harry Cohen that hope is still alive and they are doing everything in their power to make sure that this issue remains in the forefront of peoples minds .
