GB’s message

December 3, 2008 at 6:54 pm / by

I apologise for not responding to emails and messages for the past few days but I’ve been really ill. I decided to completely stay away from my computer and it’s actually been quite liberating. You should try it sometime. Plus it makes you feel popular when you have 200 new emails in your inbox….(ok, so most of them are from the Labour Party but at least GB is thinking of me right?!)

Anyway, speaking of GB, I decided to watch his recorded message about the Queen’s Speech to cheer myself up. You can see it here.

It’s good to hear that all families in my constituency will benefit from the increase in Child Benefit which will start straight after Christmas.

I had a quick look at some statistics and approximately 4,940 pensioners in the Holborn and St. Pancras constituency benefit from a rise in the Pension Credit – up to £130, over and above the rise you would normally see (and rising to £198.45 for couples).

I realise that the Tory attack has been on the high level of borrowing but in the present situation, I think borrowing is a good option. I don’t like the situation we’re in but considering the circumstances, intervention is better than the ‘let recession run its course’ attitude. It makes sense to get the money to those who need it so that employment and businesses keep going.

I’m going to check my email regularly from tomorrow so please do send me your thoughts on the Queen’s Speech, GB’s message, the cut in VAT etc. Anyway, back to the ol’ Lemsip and reruns of The West Wing for tonight!
