Food Poverty in Camden and Brent

Trussell Trust

This month, the Trussell Trust published their annual statistics, revealing the scale of food poverty in Britain in 2016.

Over 1.1 million three-day emergency food supplies were provided to people in crisis by the charity in 2015/16, with 415,000 going to children. In Camden and Brent, 6614 emergency packages were handed out, with an astonishing 2067 given to children.

Unless the Government commit to the necessary reforms of their welfare policies, this issue risks of becoming a long term trend. I have written to the Camden New Journal about this matter, and you can read my letter in full here.

Over the coming months I will continue to push the relevant Ministers to take real action to address the scandal of these levels of food bank usage in our community and our country.
