Environmental concerns

When talking to local residents, one issue that keeps cropping up in conversation is the environment. Yesterday I had the opportunity to have an extended meeting with Deputy Mayor of London Nicky Gavron, to discuss local green issues throughout both Fortune Green and Camden as a whole.

Meeting Nicky Gavron at West Hampstead Thameslink Station

I’ve met Nicky before and it’s always been (too) brief, but this time we were able to have a proper discussion about various problems in our area, such as the rundown state of our open spaces, inappropriate building developments and recycling.

We discussed my concern that recycling had taken a back seat in council estates in Camden; to resolve this something must be done to improve the service that the current council provides.

The local Labour Party has started a petition to highlight local residents’ concerns, including environmental issues such as the management of local open spaces and the increase in the number of housing developments that are not fit for purpose. We will be taking the petition onto the streets over the next three weeks and challenging people to stand up for real change.
