I decided that I deserved a holiday after campaigning endlessly for the Mayoral elections so I went to sunny Malta with friends. I had a great time but I have to admit that it was difficult coming back to London with the knowledge that Ken was no longer in charge.

However, the disappointing results were made slightly more bearable by the Labour achievements in Camden. The result for the Barnet and Camden GLA constituency saw Labour’s share of the vote increase by 4% and the Lib Dem share decline by the same amount. Labour was comfortably ahead in the majority of Camden wards, suggesting voters are increasingly recognising that the only way to keep out the Tories, locally or nationally, is to vote Labour.

I was also pleased to see that Labour’s candidate Michael Nicholaides managed to push the Tories into third place in the Highgate council by-election. Excellent work Mr Nicholaides!
