Baby leave

Parliament is the heart of our democracy, and the home to many of our equality laws. We often scrutinise legislation regarding maternity and paternity leave offered for parents around the country, and yet we don’t have parental leave in our very own House.

Life as an MP should be compatible with the responsibilities of being a parent, but archaic voting rules mean it is often difficult.

In today’s debate on baby leave for MPs, I was pleased to reflect on my own experiences as a new mother.
