APPG Early Years

November 1, 2017 at 4:01 pm / by

I recently chaired a meeting of the APPG Early Years to discuss the financial sustainability of early years providers, attended by dozens of nursery owners and early years professionals.

With the meeting taking place before the Budget, attendees were keen to stress the impact of underfunding and to outline the constraints on providers in meeting the 30 hours entitlement.

Attendees heard from two guest speakers. The first was Sarah Bonetti of the Education Policy Institute, who spoke on lessons that Britain can learn from childcare systems around the world. The second speaker was Minister Robert Goodwill, who faced questions from professionals over the Government’s approach to funding.

Through working with colleagues from across the political spectrum, I believe this APPG can be an effective tool to challenge the Government to create a sustainable early years policy.
