Andrew Lansley’s Ridiculous Comments

I can’t believe that Tory MP Andrew Lansley commented that ‘on many counts, recession can be good for us.’ His full quote which has now been taken down from the Conservative Party website stated –

“I’ve been reading up on the impact of previous economic downturns on our health. Interestingly, on many counts, recession can be good for us. People tend to smoke less, drink less alcohol, eat less rich food and spend more time at home with their families.”

What on earth is wrong with the Conservative Party?!

Even for the party that thought ‘unemployment was a price worth paying’, it is disgraceful to describe the recession as ‘good for us’. It just shows how far removed the Tories are from the public.

The Conservative Deputy Chairman already said ‘the recession has to take its course.’ Now we know that not only would the Conservatives do nothing but sit back and watch the recession ‘take its course’ – they actually believe it would be ‘good for us’.

Now we just need an insightful comment from Boris Johnson to put some icing on the Tory stupidity cake!

  1. It sounds like this is more of a “Silver lining” statement than one of policy. “yes, you broke your foot, but hey! You got someone famous/cool/hot to sign your cast…”

  2. Kentish Towner says:

I like this article. Well the school of right wing socio-economics teaches us something called supply-side economics. However, Toryism doesn’t stem from that ideology nor does it promote further strengthening of Government intervention in an economic downturn (even George Bush, a worshipper of Supply side intervened on many occasions.) Toryism takes a different view, let everything crash and burn, let people fend for themselves and let the strong (trample over the weak) survive. A complete deracination of society.
