Hooray!

November 14th, 2009

If you’ve been reading my blog and my letters in the Camden New Journal, you will know that I was extremely concerned when the Albany Street branch of the Post Office was closed earlier this year.
Along with the Labour councillors, Frank Dobson MP and the local people, I lobbied Camden Council and government ministers [...]

Canvassing in Regent’s Park

September 7th, 2009

I spent the weekend campaigning in Munster Square in Regent’s Park ward.

The main issue at the moment is that the Lib Dem/Tory council is auctioning hundreds of council homes to private developers. They are going ahead with this despite the fact that Camden currently has 18, 000 people on its housing waiting list.
The [...]

European Elections Campaigning

June 9th, 2009

I did a lot of anti-BNP campaigning before the European elections last week. Unfortunately the BNP managed to win two seats although it is worth bearing in mind that the BNP won less votes this time than they did in 2004.
Did anyone else see Nick Griffin’s victory speech? It was truly awful.
One of [...]

Campaigning, Campaigning, Campaigning

May 28th, 2009

As the Euro elections creep closer and closer, I’ve been spending most of my time campaigning. Obviously I’ve been knocking on doors in my own Regent’s Park ward as often as possible. I had a good session with Nash who is leader of the Labour Group and our local MP Frank Dobson last weekend.

Yes [...]

Total Politics

April 23rd, 2009

I was extremely pleased to see that the Total Politics magazine printed my letter.
If you haven’t got a copy of the May edition, you can read my letter online here.
This edition seems to have a few articles from people I know including Jon who discusses lobbying in the EU headquarters and Philippa who writes [...]

Tulip Siddiq for Young Labour BAME Officer

April 12th, 2009

I’m running for the Young Labour Black, Asian Ethnic Minority Officer position on Saturday 18 April.

My aim is to ensure that the voice of Young Labour BAME is heard. I believe that all of us should have equal opportunity to succeed regardless of race, religion, nationality or background. I consider greater participation of BAME [...]

Emily Thornberry MP

April 7th, 2009

I organised a London Young Labour campaigning session with Emily Thornberry MP over the weekend.
Emily joined the Labour Party when she was 17, motivated by her experiences of being raised by her mother, a single parent living on a council estate. She has lived in Islington for the last 15 years and has three young [...]

Babylon Exhibition

February 6th, 2009

Here’s the letter I wrote to the Camden New Journal this week -
Dear Editor
I’m ashamed to admit that despite living next to the British Museum, I rarely venture inside. Well I decided to implement my new year’s resolution of injecting more culture into my life and attended the ‘Babylon: Myth and Reality’ exhibition. [...]

On the Campaign Trail

December 31st, 2008

I was fortunate enough to travel with Sheikh Hasina in her car during Election Day. The Prime Minister elect (Prime Ministerial candidate at the time!) drove to several constituencies in Dhaka and stopped quickly at each one to meet the parliamentary candidate or speak to the voters.

You can see all my photos from Election [...]

Sheikh Hasina’s Video Conference

December 27th, 2008

I was lucky enough to sit in on one of Sheikh Hasina’s video conferences where she spoke to the people of Potuakhali via satellite. I sat with the Prime Ministerial candidate in the comfort of her own home in Dhanmondi at 10pm and spoke to Awami League activists about the upcoming elections.

Video conferences are [...]
